Borghetto on the Mincio

Highlight • Settlement

Borghetto sul Mincio is a municipality in the province of Verona which stands on a river ford. In medieval times it was used as a toll booth. Thanks to the Viscontis (dukes of Milan) the village acquired importance and a defensive wall was built around the town. The Duke of Milan, in a dispute with the Gonzagas in Mantua, decided to build a dam to divert the Mincio river and ultimately drain the lakes around Mantua. The project failed and a wooden bridge over the Mincio was built instead.

Sigurtà Park and Gardens

Highlight • Natural

The park is an extensive green area, the origins of which go back 600 years. It has been open to the public since 1978 and is definitely worth a visit from March to early November. Admission is currently € 14.50 for adults, dogs are not permitted.
If possible, you should not choose a weekend or public holiday (including the Italian ones!) For a visit.
If there is a lot of traffic, it is still advisable to wear a mask - also at the entrance and exit. That is also controlled.
Those who do not want to cover the distance on foot can - for a fee - borrow a golf cart or an E-BIKE or take the slow train.
Bicycles are allowed.
Depending on the season, there are always other highlights in various places.

September 26, 2025,🇮🇹 Parco Giardino Sigurta und Borghetto
A walk through the Parco Giardino Sigurta, south of Lake Garda. The park was okay, but the entrance fee was far too high. A detour to Borghetto was worthwhile, though.

Showing Translation

With its 600,000 m², the Parco Sigurtà is probably one of the most extraordinary Italian landscape gardens. The award-winning, spacious park stretches along the Mincio River near the romantic village of Valeggio, and thus only a few kilometers south of Lake Garda.

Showing Translation

The Parco Giardino Sigurta (actually an "a" with an apostrophe at the end!) costs €18 per person for adults! However, you can also stay there all day to look at everything in peace - camping / picnicking on the meadows is also allowed. Only barbecues and swimwear are not permitted!
Depending on the time of year, there are always highlights …

Today I drove to Valeggio sul Mincio by car, a visit to the beautiful Parco Giardino Sigurtà is a MUST if you are staying nearby 😁👍

We were at the park early in the morning, today there were very few people in the park 👍😎 the entrance fee of 14.50 € / person is appropriate, what is offered to the …
