Lech Dam 23 has been called Lake Mandichosee since 2003 and is the largest body of water in the Aichach-Friedberg district.

Lake Mandichosee is a diverse local recreation area with bathing beaches, sunbathing lawns, a playground, a beach volleyball court, a kiosk with restroom facilities, and a lifeguard station. A surf school, sailing club, stand-up paddleboarding courses and rentals, along with hiking and cycling opportunities, offer a wide variety of active activities. The lake is also used for hydroelectric power generation.

Lochbach at Mandichosee

Highlight • River

The Lochbach, formerly also called Brunnenlech, is a 9 km long left canal of the Lech in front of and in Augsburg.

The name Brunnenlech probably goes back to the fact that the water power from the canal in the waterworks at the Red Gate was used to supply the fountains in Augsburg. However, their drinking water was not drawn from the Lochbach, but from the Brunnenbach.

The Lochbach was already a canalized tributary of the Lech in the Middle Ages, supplying Augsburg's extensive canal network with water for use. As the Vorderer Lech, it powered four city mills as early as the 11th century, including the Pfladermühle.

In Haunstetten it has been used since the 19th century to supply energy to the industry that was emerging there (including Martini).
