Post Distance Column

Highlight • Monument

In 1721, Augustus the Strong issued the decree that "stone pillars should be erected on the country and postal roads instead of wooden ones" and commissioned his land and border commissioner Adam Friedrich Zürner to survey the land, determine the postal routes, and to commission and supervise the erection of the postal milestone pillars. This is a full-mile pillar, No. 40, which follows quarter-mile stone No. 39 from Klaffenbach on the postal route Leipzig – Chemnitz – Annaberg – Karlsbad. The pillar is approximately 3.75 m high and was made as a replica by sculptor Volker Beier, as the original stone could no longer be preserved in its available remains.
The initials AR stand for Augustus Rex. The distance indication is a Saxon mile, which would be 9062 meters long according to today's measurements; half a mile (4031 m) is one hour.

Abtwald Tischel

Highlight • Rest Area

The "Tischl" was originally a resting place for the abbot and his hunting party in the Abtwald.
It's a nice stopover for a little rest.
