Highlight • Lake

A really nice, secluded swimming area. It offers direct access to the water via stairs. Above there are benches and tables to sit down. Should be used. 🙃👍🏻

March 20, 2024,Naunhof um den Grillensee und um den Moritzsee, Wanderung 20.03.2024
The old gravel pits near Naunhof were our destination today. We circled both lakes, had good weather and were in the same mood.

I have planned the tour for a long time. So far I only knew one side of Moritzsee. Very beautiful bathing lakes with clear water, several stretches of beach and lawn, several public toilets and a snack bar in summer. Parking spaces very close by, one euro per hour. All around is forest, so almost natural.

Otherwise, there were lots of people out for a walk. The …

On a personal note: quite quiet today, few visitors and bathers...
Pleasant temperatures for walking and swimming⛱️

The two artificial lakes were created in the 1960s, when gravel and sand were mined here for the construction of the nearby A 14 motorway.
Before the 'Neuseenland',
the flooded brown coal opencast mines, attracted water lovers in the 2000s, the Naunhof lakes next to Kulkwitzer See were Leipzig's bathtubs.
It is a little quieter at Grillensee, and the motorway …

Actually, I wanted to do the loop around the Grillensee, but unfortunately the path suddenly came to an end.

What we lack in the Dresden area, there is plenty in Leipzig.
So it was once again a nice round around two lakes.
Both lakes are former gravel pits and are now very popular bathing lakes. In East Germany, Lake Moritz was known far beyond the borders of Saxony as the largest nudist bathing lake. This culture is still lived …
