Prangerlinde (Court Linden Tree) in Groß Kölzig

In the middle of the village square stands an almost dead summer linden tree, which immediately catches the eye because of its peculiar growth. It is the approximately 500-year-old pillory tree, a landmark of the town. The oldest natural monument in the municipality should be preserved for quite a long time because it conveys a good bit of local history. In past centuries, the old tree served as a court linden tree. For this purpose it was surrounded by several court stones, narrow benches made of granite.
