Llyn y Fan Fach is a beautiful lake situated below the Black Mountain escarpment. You can reach the lake within short walking distance from the Llyn y Fan Fach car park but please note it's small and gets quite busy. Folklore tells the story of 'the Lady of the Lake'. It's a great place to explore the ridge of the Carmarthen Fans surrounding the lake.

This route up the western flanks of Llyn Y Fan Fach is one of the best views in the entire Brecon Beacons. To do the Llyn y Fan Fach and Llyn y Fan Fawr circular walk will give you a memorable walk and simply astonishing views. You will take in two stunning glacial lakes, miles of epic ridge lines and mountain views that will remind you of loftier mountain ranges. It all starts here with your gaze across the glacial bowl of Llyn Y Fan Fach, truly one of the mountain gems of Wales.

Picws Du summit & view of Llyn y Fan Fach

Highlight • Summit

Picws Du, or Bannau Sir Gaer, is the highest point of the dramatic escarpment high above Llyn y Fan Fach. Due to the remote and untouched landscape, you may have the opportunity to see lots of birds, including red kite, common buzzard, kestrel, carrion crow, common raven and skylark.

Old Trout Farm on the Afon Sawdde

Highlight • Structure

The route from here up and around Llyn Y Fan Fawr and Back must be a strong contender as one of the Wales’s most scenic walks. This is just the old trout farm on the Afon Sawdde on the start of your walk really. When I say old, it is old in structure but still being used to breed fish and is a nice half way marker on the way to Llyn Y Fan Fach itself. The nicest thing about this part of the walk is that there are abundant photo opportunities as you have the river, mini waterfalls and the main escarpment of Fan Fach in front of you,
