Lake Berzdorf

Highlight • Lake

Lake Berzdorf is located on the southern border of Görlitz in Upper Lusatia. It was created from a former open-cast lignite mine that was flooded between 2002 and 2013. With an area of 960 hectares, a maximum depth of 72 meters and a volume of around 330 million cubic meters, it is one of the largest lakes in Saxony.

You will find some wonderful bathing spots on the lake. So don't forget your bathing suit.

Very beautiful Berzdorfer See, was not there for a long time, would have to go again.

Neiße Viaduct

Highlight • Bridge

The Neisse Viaduct is very impressive, especially when you pass under it along the river.
With a length of 475 m, it is still one of the longest railway bridges in Germany. This bridge was opened in 1847 as part of the important Dresden - Breslau (present-day Wrocław) rail link.

The granite required for the construction of the viaduk was mainly taken from the Limasberg (Liebsteiner Berg) in the Königshainer mountains. Unfortunately, half the mountain was removed in the process.

Görlitz Old Town Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

Nice view from the bridge to the parish church and the course of the Neisse.
Attention, you will be photographed, because this is a border crossing.
Additional:
The old town bridge was the first fortified Neisse crossing in the Görlitz city area. Until 1945, it connected the old town of Görlitz with the eastern suburbs in various forms. After the arched bridge was blown up at the end of the Second World War and the city was subsequently divided into a German and Polish part, only the stone abutments on both banks of the river reminded of the bridge. In 2004, a new pedestrian bridge was opened between Görlitz on the German side and Zgorzelec on the Polish side over the Lausitzer Neisse. The arched bridge has a span of around 80 meters and is intended to be a symbol of a Europe that is growing together and parts of the city that are growing together again.

Old Town Bridge

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Görlitz Altstadtbrücke bridge is mentioned for the first time in 1298. It was built with wood and had to be renewed again and again, because not only the burden of the commercial caravans paid its tribute, but also fire, floods and the effects of the war.
Today's Old Town Bridge was officially opened on October 20, 2004. Since then, the pedestrian bridge has historically connected the two parts of the European city of Görlitz / Zgorzelec.

Here in the Weinhübel district is the former public baths of Görlitz.

But the days of bathing are over, nature has reclaimed its territory and made the shallow lake an excellent fishing area -->

alleangeln.de/gewaesser/volksbad-g%C3%B6rlitz

There are considerations to reconnect this to the Neisse and to reactivate it.

For a long time, the Volksbad was a popular and lively meeting place for the people of Görlitz. Swimming is no longer possible there, the ponds are littered and too rich in nutrients, the latter partly due to the anglers feeding the fish.
