Statue of the white nun Amelie

Highlight • Monument

In the middle of the Wutzsee, in front of the remains of the Lindow monastery, there is a woman made of granite. Two meters high and almost 1,500 kilos.
The nun named Amelie is said to have been of extraordinary beauty. The young woman fled because she could no longer stand the life behind the monastery walls. In a way, a fate of Katharina von Bora, who later became the wife of Martin Luther.

Lindow Monastery Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

In the twelfth century, the monastery was founded as a Cistercian convent by the Counts of Arnstein as the owners of the Ruppin estate. With the Reformation in 1542 it was used as a Protestant women's monastery. In the Thirty Years War (1638) the monastery complex was destroyed by imperial troops. Some of the old monastery buildings are still in ruins.

Located directly on the Wutzsee with a small swimming area next to it. However, stopping off is only possible directly in town.
