Beachy Head Road

Highlight • Cycleway

A very nice smooth section of road that rolls gently downhill through a series of flowing bends, with some amazing views over the coast, lighthouses and downs at the eastern extent of the South Downs National Park.

Cadence Cafe Beachy Head

Highlight • Rest Area

Cadence Cycle Club is a collective of cyclists geared towards making cycling more accessible for everyone. At the heart of the community are four clubhouses serving as outdoor cycle friendly cafes focused on serving good coffee and a range of delicious food including their signature toasties. The Beachy Head clubhouse has fantastic sea views with outdoor benches. As it is in an exposed location, it can close at short notice if weather conditions are extreme.

As the open road winds through the cliff top headland, take a moment to pull over and stop on the grassy verge. This spot offers fabulous views over "The Sunshine Coast" and the High Weald, giving you a sense of how high up you are.

Eastbourne boasts one of the highest sunshine records in the UK, earning it the nickname "The Sunshine Coast."

So scenic when you look over to your right of the meandering Cuckmere River meeting the sea. Can get pretty windy around here!

Ouse Estuary Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Natural

Between Newhaven and Seaford is the Ouse Estuary Nature Reserve which is home to a wide variety of birds, insects, plants and amphibians including the internationally protected Great Crested Newt.

Cutting across the nature reserve is an excellent tarmac traffic-free cycle path which is part of National Cycle Network route 2. The scenic trail is an excellent alternative to the busy A259, which runs alongside it.

Royal Pavilion Brighton

Highlight • Monument

The Royal Pavilion in Brighton seems somewhat unreal with its extraordinary architecture. The impressive palace immediately catches the eye and is reminiscent of the well-known Indian Mughal palaces. The Royal Pavilion was built between 1815 and 1822 by King George IV during his time as Prince of Wales. After the Second World War, the Royal Pavilion was extensively restored.
