Muncaster is a beautifully preserved castle that has remained in the same family, The Penningtons for nine centuries.

The castle has plenty of history and it is thought Henry VI fled to the castle after the Battle of Towton in 1461 where Sir John Pennington put him up for the night.

The castle and gardens can be visited between 10.30-1700. Tickets cost approximately £15 per adult.

Walls Castle Roman Bath House

Highlight • Historical Site

The tallest Roman building in the north of England, Walls Castle is the remains of a Roman bath house. Two of the rooms still maintain their original height of 13 feet (4 m). The bath houses would have served the fort, which was located to the south west. You can visit the site from Ravenglass via one of the Lake District's accessible 'miles without stiles' routes.
