Old beech with stone circle

A beautiful old tree - unfortunately something damaged by clumsy sawing or broken branches, but hopefully she will think about it for a long time.

Right by the lock there is a picnic area, from there you have this beautiful view. A path begins there along the Dortmund-Ems Canal, which is worth walking. Not far away, you can turn left and walk beautiful Pättken in Bevergern.

Gravenhorst Abbey

Highlight • Religious Site

Gravenhorst Monastery looks back on a long history. In 1256 the Mecklenburg knight Konrad von Brochterbeck founded the monastery together with his wife. The independence of the monastery or the Cistercian abbey had to assert itself again and again against attacks by secular lords, for whom the independent Gravenhorster women were a thorn in the side.

In 1808 the monastery was closed and the last Cistercian women left the abbey three years later. Today the DA, Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst, is located here, where exhibitions, concerts and educational programs take place.
