Worbarrow Bay

Highlight • Viewpoint

An exceptionally pretty semi-circular bay, this is a wonderful place for a swim or to simply admire the stunning chalk cliffs. Worbarrow Bay is part of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site and fairly out of the way, making it usually quiet. It's important to note that the bay falls within the Lulworth Firing Ranges and therefore access is limited to most weekends and public holidays. View of Warbarrow Bay and Tyneham Valley from Rings Hill

Highlight • Summit

This spectacular and unspoilt coastal scene on the South West Coast Path is a favourite! The view looks southeast and is taken on the descent from the towering Rings Hill (165 m, 541 ft).

The vista shows the pretty Warbarrow Bay, Warbarrow Tout (the limestone hill that protrudes into the sea on the southern edge of Warbarrow Bay), the peaceful green Tyneham Valley that meets the sea at Warbarrow Bay, and Gold Down (the grass ridge to the south of Tyneham Valley). This area is seldom busy and yet rivals the nearby Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door for quality of scenery.

Be careful on the descent from Rings Hill as the path is steeper than it looks! If you are climbing Rings Hill from Warbarrow Bay the effort is definitely worth it.

With a white pebble beach and clean turquoise waters, the horseshoe bay of Lulworth Cove is an extremely picturesque place. At low tide, you can explore lots of rock pools that are teeming with life.

To the east of the cove lies the famous Fossil Forest. This unique site features fossilized moulds of ancient tree stumps and a fossil soil from the Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary (around 135 million years ago). It offers a remarkable glimpse into a prehistoric landscape. Access to the Fossil Forest may sometimes be restricted due to its proximity to an army firing range, so it's advisable to check firing times before visiting.

The glorious views west from Rings Hill are one of the highlights of walking the Jurassic Coast on the South West Coast Path! The remote roller-coaster path, steep chalk cliffs, grassy rolling hills, the distant Isle of Portland, and the vast Lulworth Ranges used for tank and armoured vehicle training, combine to give a scene that is unforgettable.

Spent my birthday doing what I love the most. Hiking!!!
Went from Lulworth cove all the way over to Tyneham village, taking in the breath taking views along the cliff paths. This route is only accessible on the weekends, or if the red flags are down. There is a section which I have marked as dubious. I'm pretty sure I …
