The Eider, Schleswig-Holstein's longest river, stretches 188 kilometers from its source to its mouth in the North Sea. The river begins in the hilly moraine region south of Kiel, more precisely at the Heickenteich and a small lake on the Schönhagen estate. From there, the Eider winds its way through the state in numerous twists and turns, initially as the Upper Eider, past Rendsburg, where it empties into the Kiel Canal. The river's course is interrupted by the canal but continues westward until it empties into the North Sea near Tönning.

This is also one of the two final destinations if you go on a paddling tour with the canoe from the Achterwehr canoe rental 🛶... The alternative with more current/swell would be the Westensee as a destination 😉...
