My dear wife and I passed through here on our hike "Eider Valley with Blue Bridge" on May 21, 2025. We enjoyed the forest and the landscape.

Nice shady rest area with a view of the Eidertal. Please take your own rubbish with you if possible, thank you.

The cobblestone granite bridge from 1803 is now a listed building.

The "Blue Bridge" is the oldest known iron structure in Bodesholmer Land. The Eider Bridge was built in 1865 on behalf of the Itzehoer Kloster and the Bordesholm Office. It owes its current name to the paint job in 1992. The bridge dates from the 19th century, is located at the Eiderkate Reesdorf and is now a listed building. Before the bridge was built, Schmalstede, Bruges, Bordesholm & Wattenbek were only accessible via a ford (for lorry traffic) & a wooden footbridge (for pedestrians). Due to the risk of accidents & high repair costs of the wooden footbridge, an application for a bridge was made at the Danish court & only approved in the 2nd attempt & then built in 1802 by Jasper Hatz from Brüggerdorf & completed in 1803.
