The church's patron saint suggests its great age. It was first mentioned in 1330 in the Taxa generalis of the Archdiocese of Trier. The Romanesque west tower dates to the beginning of the 13th century. The core of the nave, which still stands today, was built around 1470. Around 1728, the choir was enlarged, and a sacristy was added to the south side of the east bay of the nave. Along with other minor alterations over time, the expansion between 1904 and 1906 was the most significant. Under the direction of the Bonn architect Johann Adam Rüppel, the northern aisle was renovated and a southern aisle was added. This created the current four-aisled hall church. In 1919, the western gallery was built from tuff stone in neo-Gothic style.

A beautiful place to rest and watch the wildlife. This time we were able to observe two pairs of great crested grebes. Simply a place for the soul.

Even experts are puzzled about the geological formation of the Rodder Maare. It is certainly not of volcanic origin, so it is not a maar. Because of its circular shape, it could have been formed by a meteorite impact. What is certain is that the Rodder Maar has experienced an interplay of irrigation and drainage, agricultural and forestry use in the course of its history. For a long time it served as a fish pond for the Lordship of Olbrück. During times of need in the 19th century it was drained to grow crops. However, the constantly damp clay soil was neither suitable for arable farming nor for fodder production. Most recently, in the early 1960s, water-draining spruces were planted and the maar was drained. These efforts had not paid off. Source: http://www.ostiefel-aktiv.de/40848/41919.html

Rodder Maar is 7 hectares in size and was formed by either mateorite impact or volcanic activity. It was used as a fish pond until 1800. From 1995 to 1998 it was renatured after draining and offers a habitat for fauna and flora as a biotope.
