This is how the granite and quartzite came to our region in and on the glaciers of that time from Scandinavia in the penultimate Ice Age - 300,000 - 130,000 years ago. They are "Northern Boulders". Other boulders (including Buntsandstein) come from the south. It is believed that in wintry weather they landed on the ice of the Rhine or Meuse and when the spring thaws floated down the river on ice floes to our area. These stones are called "Southern Boulders".

A tough slow journey. If you like the hill country with a few steep ascents and descents, I can recommend this route. Our starting and ending point was at pancake house den TOL in Plasmolen and where you can park the car behind their company for free and immediately walk the route.
