You can also find traces of the war past in the Oisterwijkse Bossen. On 14 May 1940, Rotterdam was bombed by German aircraft. The centre of Rotterdam was completely destroyed. The rubble was used as building material throughout the Netherlands in the years that followed! A load of rubble also ended up in the Oisterwijkse Bossen. The German occupiers built an ammunition depot here in 1943. These depots were often built in the forests, so that they were poorly visible from the air and therefore less likely to be spotted by Allied aircraft. Because the trucks sank into the soft forest soil, the paths were paved with the Rotterdam rubble. Now, 75 years later, these stones are still in the forest. You can mainly find them on the south side of the Goorven. You can walk there via the yellow Goorven route or the longer 14-vennen walk.

You are now at the Klein Aderven. Just like the Witven, Van Esschenven and Groot Aderven, this fen was created by wind erosion. This can be traced back to the location of the fens in a southwest to northeast direction. This is the wind direction that occurs most in our country.
