                        We are not sure how these fens got their name. According to some, the name refers to the water veins that are in the bottom. According to others, it is a corruption of the word adder. Wherever the name comes from, they are certainly beautiful.

                          You are now at the Klein Aderven. Just like the Witven, Van Esschenven and Groot Aderven, this fen was created by wind erosion. This can be traced back to the location of the fens in a southwest to northeast direction. This is the wind direction that occurs most in our country.

                                  Klein Aderven is nestled deep within the Oisterwijk Forests and Fens, one of Brabant's most famous nature reserves. This small fen has an intimate and tranquil atmosphere: reeds sway along the shore, dragonflies skim low over the water, and in the early morning, you can often see mist hanging over the fen.

                                  The fen was formed during the last ice age, when meltwater and wind eroded the soil, leaving puddles in the landscape. Later, the area was covered with pine forests and patches of heathland, creating a diverse natural landscape. Klein Aderven is ecologically valuable: waterfowl find peace and quiet there, and along the banks grow unique plants adapted to the nutrient-poor water.

                                  Walking around the fen, you experience an almost tranquil atmosphere. The contrast between open water, forests, and heathland makes this a place where experiencing nature takes center stage. Together with the surrounding fens, Klein Aderven is a jewel in the long series of Oisterwijk fens.
