Beautiful gate, but the last one Gorinchem still has

The only remaining gate in Gorinchem, and it's a beautiful one. Climb the ramparts and enjoy the view.

There are three standard mills in the Heusden fortress. These standard mills adorn the appearance of the fortress and were placed as part of the restoration of the fortress (from 1969). They were rebuilt on the original location where they stood when they were still in full operation (14th century). The three grain mills are fully functional, that is to say; they are able to grind grain into flour. A grinding chair has been installed in all mills (two millstones connected to the going work).

Loevestein Castle is located in a unique place, where the Maas and the Waal meet. It is situated in the Fortress Triangle, between the historic cities of Gorinchem, Woudrichem and Zaltbommel and forms a hub of culture and nature. Loevestein is located on the border of three provinces - Gelderland, Noord-Brabant and Zuid-Holland - and is part of the municipality of Zaltbommel. Woudrichem is a tiny old fortified town in the northernmost point of North Brabant, where the rivers Maas and Waal meet. Pass through the city gates and you will be taken back in time by the charm of the town.

Together with Gorinchem and Slot Loevestein, Woudrichem forms the so-called Fortress Triangle at the intersection of the Waal, Afgedamde Maas and Merwede. Woudrichem has a rich history. In 1356 it received city rights. The old ramparts are still virtually intact. Of the five city gates, however, only the Gevangenpoort remains. The Hoogstraat is particularly beautiful with its valuable buildings and beautiful facade stones.
