This striking bridge over the Amstel River, the Vrouwenakker Bridge, was built in 2008. Its shape is quite remarkable; the top of the bridge suspiciously resembles the limbs of a praying mantis. The bridge connects the village of De Kwakel with the hamlet of Vrouwenakker.

At this spot, dotted with several benches, boats come and go constantly. Always a pleasant sight.

Nice detour along the water and meadow, narrow cycle path with a few big bends and very overgrown in summer, so pay close attention!

Beautiful museum about the origin and drainage of the Haarlemmermeer

The Waterwolf is a reminder of the lake that was here before the Haarlemmermeer existed. It was a wild lake and due to storms and peat excavations it became increasingly larger and more dangerous. Many villages disappeared in the waves during storms. In 1852 the lake was drained and the Haarlemmermeerpolder was created. The statue is 20 m long and 6 m high, made by Maree Blok and Bas Lugthart. Well maintained cycling pathes before and after. Best way between Hoofddorp and Aalsmeer.

The Bosbaan, built in 1937, is the oldest artificial rowing course in the world and a popular place for rowing training and competitions. From the shore near the restaurant you can often see rowers training hard or competing here. Follow the paths along the water to experience the activity up close, or walk further into the Amsterdamse Bos for a peaceful walk through nature.

This is a gravel track to avoid on a road bike.
