Step into a green oasis where vegetables, flowers, and herbs come together. In the Garden, you'll discover how vegetables and flowers grow, bloom, and how our food is grown. An inspiring place where you can experience the beauty and power of plants up close. In a world full of haste, it's sometimes forgotten how everything grows outdoors. This garden makes you aware of how humanity and nature work together in harmony. The Garden is situated on one of Enkhuizen's most beautiful plots, just outside the historic Koepoort gate.

9월 8, 2025, Koopmanspolder Nature Reserve
The Koopmanspolder is a testing ground for future water management. The ordinary grassland outside the dikes has been redesigned by a visual artist. From above, it resembles the whirlpool of an emptying pool. With a flexible water level, the area has now been transformed into an interplay of nature, water, landscape art, and recreation. The diversity is attractive to all kinds of plants and animals, especially marsh and water birds, which come from the IJsselmeer to the sheltered polder to rest and gather food. Fish-friendly inlet and outlet systems have been installed for fish. The Koopmanspolder is accessible from July 15th to October 15th. From the West Frisian Ring Dike, you can reach the viewing point in the middle of the whirlpool via a shell path and wander along the dikes.

5월 14, 2025, Radboud Castle
Radboud Castle is located directly on the harbor of Medemblik and was built around 1288 by order of Floris V as a fortress to keep the region under control. Two wings, several towers and parts of the contours of the original castle are still visible, giving you a good idea of the medieval layout. An interesting stop during your walk, especially for those interested in the history of West Friesland and the role of castles in the landscape.

Built in 1649. There are two stories circulating, why the passage of this gate has a bend. I find both of them not very plausible. It would be useful for collecting tolls, because carts are slowed down by the bend. And it would make it impossible to shoot through the gate with a cannon. For both purposes, the bend is too small.

Between 1590 and 1593 Enkhuizen was expanded inland, i.e. to the west. An earthen wall was built with a new defensive moat and seven bastions. A wooden gate and a drawbridge were built where the Cow Gate now stands. Half a century later, they wanted to replace the wooden gate with a stone gatehouse. The construction drawing is probably by Jacob van Campen. The first stone was laid in 1649, but it soon became apparent that the Bentheim sandstone for the construction could not be supplied. In 1654 the gate was provisionally completed. It was already a gate through which traffic passed. Due to the construction of the Straatweg Hoorn - Enkhuizen to Hoorn, which was completed in 1671, much of the incoming traffic came through the Koepoort. However, the gate was not maintained and fell into disrepair. In 1730 the gate was restored and provided with a dome, in memory of which the year 1730 has been placed under the pediment. The gate has not changed in shape since this year. In 1793, a clock with a striking clock was installed in the dome. This tower clock was demolished around 1940 and replaced by an electric copy by J.H. Addick's tower clock factory in Amsterdam. The wrought iron clock remained in the attic of the building for many years, but suddenly disappeared. This timepiece had a special escapement by means of a verge or spoon escapement. It may now be present in the 'Klok en Peel' museum in Asten.[1] Since the 1990s, a computer-controlled clock has been connected to the transmitter in Germany. The bell with striking tone ± f2 was cast in Amsterdam by Claes Noorden and Jan Albert de Grave in 1708 and has the inscription: SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTUM AMSTELODAMI 1708.
