It's often windy on the dike, but if you make sure you're facing the right direction, it's a very pleasant route. Even in summer, when flies and mosquitoes are plentiful, always try to ride with the wind at your back.

The Koopmanspolder is a testing ground for future water management. The ordinary grassland outside the dikes has been redesigned by a visual artist. From above, it resembles the whirlpool of an emptying pool. With a flexible water level, the area has now been transformed into an interplay of nature, water, landscape art, and recreation. The diversity is attractive to all kinds of plants and animals, especially marsh and water birds, which come from the IJsselmeer to the sheltered polder to rest and gather food. Fish-friendly inlet and outlet systems have been installed for fish. The Koopmanspolder is accessible from July 15th to October 15th. From the West Frisian Ring Dike, you can reach the viewing point in the middle of the whirlpool via a shell path and wander along the dikes.

The Catholic St. Martin's Church in Medemblik is a neo-Gothic church designed by T. Slinger, a student of Pierre Cuypers. The church's 65-meter-high tower is one of the four towers that define Medemblik's appearance; after St. Boniface's Church, it is the tallest building in the city.

Radboud Castle is located directly on the harbor of Medemblik and was built around 1288 by order of Floris V as a fortress to keep the region under control. Two wings, several towers and parts of the contours of the original castle are still visible, giving you a good idea of the medieval layout. An interesting stop during your walk, especially for those interested in the history of West Friesland and the role of castles in the landscape.
