De Hef (Dutch Hefbrug, German Hubbrücke; officially Koningshavenbrug) is a former railway bridge in Rotterdam (Netherlands) on the Breda–Rotterdam railway line, the main route from Rotterdam to the south, i.e. Breda, Roosendaal, and further to Antwerp and Brussels. It leads from the Noordereiland over the Koningshaven to the Feijenoord district and is parallel to the Koninginnebrug. The Koningshavenbrug and the lateral single-span trusses that still exist today date from 1878. The middle was designed as a swing bridge, but this proved to be an obstacle for shipping. After the German ship Kandelfels rammed the swing bridge off its supporting pillar on November 2, 1918, the swing bridge was replaced by a lifting bridge. The lifting bridge was designed by P. Joosting and was completed on October 31, 1927.

From the bridge you have a great view of the Rotterdam skyline.

De Hef lost its function when a railway tunnel was opened in 1994. But the demolition plans provoked strong protests from Rotterdam residents. De Hef had to stay. The bridge was therefore classified as a national monument in 2000.

Beautiful old harbor worth seeing. The passage from the Maas to the Old Port of Rotterdam used to be at this point. The name comes from the disused shipyard “De Koningspoort” in Hoogkerk (Groningen).

The Willems Bridge is one of Rotterdam's three large bridges that cross the Nieuwe Maas. It is 365 meters long and is a cable-stayed bridge standing on two large pylons. At night, the red color comes into its own even more thanks to the lighting.

Beautiful idyllic harbor with buildings worth seeing all around. There are also a few restaurants right on the shore.

Unfortunately, this lift bridge is no longer in operation. Would be a spectacle for sure.

Wonderful old railway bridge that used to only be raised when a large boat/ship had to pass under it. Right next to the bridge on Nordereiland there is a beautiful little park where I used to play football with my uncle and where the children can still run around today.
