Bridge closed again On the website of the province of South Holland We are carrying out maintenance on the Kandelaar Bridge from Monday, June 16, to Monday, September 1, 2025. The bridge will be closed during this period. Cyclists and pedestrians can use a ferry to cross the Schie River during this period. There will be closures for shipping and boaters.

The Tram Bridge over the Vlaardingervaart canal near Schipluiden is a bicycle bridge. Steam trams of the Westland Steam Tramway Company (WSM) used to run here, transporting vegetables from the Westland region to Delft. Between 1912 and 1932, passengers were also transported. After the war, diesel locomotives were used. The WSM tram line was closed in 1968. The bridge has been used as a bicycle bridge since 1974 and is an important link in the cycle routes of Midden-Delfland. The Tram Bridge has been a national monument since 2001. The town hall, the Nieuwe Kerk and the statue of Hugo de Groot are striking here. Nice open square, but not really cozy .... It is too open for that.

The Kandelaarbrug is a drawbridge for pedestrians and cyclists, over the Delftse Schie, in the Dutch province of South Holland. The drawbridge is hydraulically driven by a cylinder under the bridge deck. The bridge has, on the west side, the longest ramp in the entire area and there is a 'kink' in this ramp. Approximately 5000 cyclists use the bridge per week and it opens about 120 times during that time. Crosswinds at the Kandelaarbrug make it difficult for skippers to pass this bridge.
