This small Marian shrine does not have its name and patronage after one of the many people who are venerated as saints. LORETO is a place of pilgrimage in central Italy, Marche region. The place did not become famous because of apparitions of the Mother of God - like Lourdes in the French Pyrenees or Fatima in Portugal. Rather, a building is venerated there that is considered to be the house of Mary in Nazareth. According to legend, angels brought the house here from Israel - with a few stops along the way. Poppenricht is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Amberg-Sulzbach and is part of the metropolitan region of Nuremberg. The name of the political community is derived from the village Poppenricht or Michaelpoppenricht, which is the main town of the community; this is the seat of the municipal administration.
