The Vils source is definitely worth a detour when driving through Kleinschönbrunn

The Vilsquelle rises in Kleinschönbrunn Markt Freihung, and forms the center of the place. The spring discharge is around 11 liters per second and flows through small towns in the direction of Amberg to Kallmünz, where it flows into the Naab after around 85 km. Next to the spring there is a small playground with a swing, slide and climbing ship where the small children can enjoy themselves.

The Vils rises in the middle of Kleinschönbrunn (Freihung municipality) and flows into the Naab at Kallmünz after 78 kilometers. This is where the Vilstal hiking trail (blue cross in landscape format on a white background) begins and accompanies the most important rivers in the Amberg-Sulzbach region 89 kilometers to the mouth - sometimes directly on the shore, sometimes a little away from it. The first source version of the Vils in Kleinschönbrunn was in 1931. In 1958 it was renewed. In its current form, the source has been presented since 2009 as part of the village renewal. Five water spirits attract special attention - mythical creatures hiding between spring stones. They are intended to encourage people to discover and appreciate water as the source of life.
