7월 21, 2025, Ruins of Michaeliskirche (Alt Jabel)
The old fieldstone church was built around 1256 and served as a place of worship for the surrounding villages of the Alt Jabel community until a new one was built in 1908. The attic and a wooden bell tower were demolished, and the church remains were left to their own devices. The church ruins have now been restored and secured.

The areas were significantly shaped by the last ice age. A large dune area was created along the Elbe's glacial valley, stretching from Wittenberge in the south to Boizenburg in the north over a length of around 100 km. The Schmölen Dune is the largest inland dune in Europe. 100 years ago, attempts were made to reforest the dune in order to protect adjacent fields from silting. Until the Löcknitz Polder was built in the 1970s, the Elbe's floodwaters reached the foot of the dunes.

The HERRsche clay pit is located on the eastern edge of the municipality of Rüterberg and you can see the remains of the clinker factory demolished in 1971. The Chilehaus in Hamburg, built in 1922, was bricked with the bricks produced here with the particularly hard-wearing surface. (Source: griesegebiet.de) On the banks of the Elbe you can still see the remains of the quay wall for loading the stones. The forest path in the direction of Dömitz is partially paved with clinker quarry from this brickworks.

The Dömitz Fortress, located on the Mecklenburg bank of the Elbe, is one of the few very well-preserved lowland fortresses from the 16th century in northern Germany. Laid out in the form of a pentagon and provided with bastions and casemate vaults, it shows the impressive defense architecture of the Renaissance. The client, Johann Albrecht I of Mecklenburg, had the fortress built to protect the Mecklenburg state border and to control the revenue from the Elbe. Due to the special nature of the building and due to the exceptionally good state of preservation, it was placed under monument protection in 1975.

The bridge offers a great view of the Elbe, Dömitz (Mecklenburg-West Pomerania) and the still standing part of the Dömitz Elbbrücke on the southern bank of the Elbe near Kaltenhof (Lower Saxony). Especially in the morning, during a beautiful sunrise, you can often enjoy spectacular views here.
