Despite the few meters of altitude, there are quite a few good trails here

The tree is still in the place where it belongs. In a beautiful beech forest. With small wooden benches all around. Beautiful, quiet hiking trails.

After the Second World War, peat was mined here on a large scale to a depth of six metres. This is how the peat pits, which are today's water areas, were created.

The nature reserve consists of fen areas, former peat cuttings and wet grassland. During the construction of the federal highway 23, two large ponds were created, which are also part of the nature reserve. Further information about the Fieler Moor nature reserve can be found at: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fieler_Moor

The Great Stone Tomb of Bunsoh The largest and most famous of the at least six known Albersdorf bowl stones is the large bowl stone from Bunsoh. What is a big stone with 150 indented bowls, grooves and images doing in bunsoh? It is part of an excellently preserved megalithic tomb (“Holsteiner Kammer” type). As one of three capstones, it forms the impressive roof of a burial chamber that was completely under a mound of earth. Two stone edgings were found in the mound. The burial chamber was undisturbed until the excavation in 1908. In the Bronze Age, the megalithic tomb was built over with a burial mound. The burial chamber has been uncovered in the middle of the hill and can be experienced via an entrance. The mound has a diameter of 20 to 22 meters and still has a height of 3.5 meters. The highest point of the megalithic stone chamber is about 1.6 meters below. The motifs on the western of the three capstones are exceptional: in addition to the eponymous bowl decoration, a wheel cross, a circular motif, two pairs of hands and at least one depiction of feet can also be clearly identified. The dating of these enigmatic rock paintings is disputed. According to the current state of knowledge, the entire tomb was built between 3500 and 3200 BC. B.C., the stone decorations were only subsequently added at a more recent burial stage of the tomb sometime between 3000 and 1700 B.C. attached. The tomb was used for burials several times. So far there is no reliable knowledge about the meaning of the cup stones. On the one hand, it is assumed that the stones could have served for a fertility cult. On the other hand, they could have functioned as surfaces for the expression of creativity, since there were hardly any other media available that were not made of ephemeral material. It is also unclear why only this stone was refined, while the two neighboring ones remained undecorated. The six Albersdorf shell stones, together with the others from Schleswig-Holstein, belong to the Nordic area of rock art. In northern Germany and Denmark, bowls are by far the most common motif, mostly appearing on the top (face side) of capstones. These rock paintings from Northern Europe are magnificent testimonies of past cultures that did not yet have written form and wanted to express themselves in a different way. For some time there has been a debate as to whether the unfortunately weathered bowl stone would not be better kept in the new museum of the Stone Age village in order to save its special motifs, which unfortunately have suffered significantly in recent decades. The Bunsoher are probably against it. Let's see how this develops further.

The shell stone is a passage grave that was laid out around 3500 BC. The stones were covered with a mound of earth. Later there was another burial here around 1700 BC with elevation of the mound. The name of the tomb refers to the bowl stone, which has numerous artificial depressions that probably served ritual purposes. Such stones are often found on graves and places of worship. What is unique about this grave, however, is that the bowl stone also acts as a capstone.

The five-fingered linden tree is a tree in the Riesewohld that is around 250 years old and has five trunks, which have grown together in the lower part to resemble a hand. 250 years ago, a very beautiful girl made eyes at the young men in the village and did not come home one evening. Her father, brothers and servants searched for her and found her lying dead in the moss. A hiker came along the forest path and was frightened when he saw the dead girl. So he ran away and was mistaken for the murderer and caught. The hiker said that he was innocent. The father demanded that the hiker swear it with God as a witness, but in his fear, God used his left hand instead of his right. Now the father was sure that the hiker was the murderer. He was hanged and his body buried in the forest. Before his death, the hiker raised his hand and said that it would grow out of the grave as a sign of his innocence. Years later, the real murderer confessed to his crime, which he had committed because the girl had rejected him. The five-fingered linden tree now grows where the hiker was buried.
