The castle, the largest fortified complex in Trentino, extends over the top of the hill of the same name, occupying a position of great strategic importance for the control of Vallagarina and the communication routes between the German Empire and the Italian peninsula. Of medieval origins, the fortress underwent a major renovation in the first half of the sixteenth century that gave it its current appearance.
