Excellent place to rest after the climb from Flumini Maggiore, before going downhill and partially on gravel among the cork trees

Built in the early 1900s and named after Lord Thomas Allnutt Brassey, the Naracauli Washery processed blende, the mineral from which zinc was extracted. Connected to the Gennamari and Ingurtosu mines by funiculars and railways, it was one of Sardinia's main mining facilities for decades. Dismantled in the 1970s, today its monumental remains—immersed in the landscape of the Costa Verde—are one of the most iconic images of the Sardinian Geomineral Park.

Piscinas beach is one of the most picturesque spots in southwestern Sardinia. The golden sand dunes, up to 60 meters high, extend for several kilometers to the sea and are among the most impressive in Europe. Shaped by the wind and covered in Mediterranean vegetation, they offer an unusual landscape for the island. The area is part of the Geo-Mineral Historical Environmental Park of Sardinia and is home to protected species such as the Sardinian deer and sea turtles. For almost a century, this location was used to store and then load merchant minerals arriving by rail from the Ingurtosu Mine. Piscinas offers few services, but its charm lies precisely in its isolated and natural character.

Between Arbus and Fiuminimaggiore, the Bidderdi Pass is a famous climb in the province of South Sardinia, including the territories of the former provinces of Carbonia-Iglesias and Medio Campidano. As you climb it, you might notice some specimens of Arbus black sheep, a native sheep species.

A hike through the dunes is simply wonderful.

The dunes of Piscinas constitute an enchanting isolated oasis, characterized by fine, warm and golden sand, which rises up to 60 meters high. Shaped by the mistral, they extend for several kilometers from the hinterland until they plunge into the bright blue sea. Piscinas, jewel of the Costa Verde, offers a breathtaking landscape and an unmissable beach, listed among the most beautiful in the world by National Geographic. Next to the dunes there are the remains of the old railway used to transport minerals from the Ingurtosu mines. The current hotel was once an old mining company administration building.
