The Palazzo della Direzione building stands out in the midst of a now-abandoned village surrounded by nature; it is as contradictory as it is fascinating.

Arbus is a village in the Medio Campidano region with a long tradition of mining and craftsmanship. The historic center is home to the Sardinian Knife Museum, several churches, and workshops that keep traditional skills alive. The town is a good starting point for visiting the former mines of Ingurtosu and Montevecchio or reaching the beaches of Scivu and Piscinas. Piscinas beach is one of the most picturesque spots in southwestern Sardinia. The golden sand dunes, up to 60 meters high, extend for several kilometers to the sea and are among the most impressive in Europe. Shaped by the wind and covered in Mediterranean vegetation, they offer an unusual landscape for the island. The area is part of the Geo-Mineral Historical Environmental Park of Sardinia and is home to protected species such as the Sardinian deer and sea turtles. For almost a century, this location was used to store and then load merchant minerals arriving by rail from the Ingurtosu Mine. Piscinas offers few services, but its charm lies precisely in its isolated and natural character.

Sardinia always hides some surprises, like this palace/castle with a very particular architecture. The history of the building is well summarized by a municipal sign placed right on the curve, under the magnificent neo-medieval style balcony. It is incredible to think that it was the headquarters of the company that managed the mines in the area.

The dunes of Piscinas constitute an enchanting isolated oasis, characterized by fine, warm and golden sand, which rises up to 60 meters high. Shaped by the mistral, they extend for several kilometers from the hinterland until they plunge into the bright blue sea. Piscinas, jewel of the Costa Verde, offers a breathtaking landscape and an unmissable beach, listed among the most beautiful in the world by National Geographic. Next to the dunes there are the remains of the old railway used to transport minerals from the Ingurtosu mines. The current hotel was once an old mining company administration building.
