The former manor house served as a royal post station on the Hanover-London route until 1860. It housed, among other things, the Elector's and later the Royal Hanoverian Post Office, including a postmaster's office, post station, and horse-changing station. Since its restoration in 1977, it has housed the city library. The carillon mounted on the side plays the song "The Little Nienburg Girl" several times a day.

Nienburg's main shopping street and pedestrian zone offers a wide variety of shops and beautiful facades from different eras. Lange Strasse runs from the "Filmeck" intersection through the former Nordertor gate to the asparagus fountain. The street is remarkably wide for an old town of Nienburg's size and served both as a grand avenue for parades and demonstrations (the annual march of the civic companies) and as a place to shelter fleeing farmers and farmers, quickly accommodating their wagons. Half-timbered houses as far as the eye can see. This picturesque half-timbered town was first mentioned in a document in 1025. Today, the town has a population of around 33,000 and was an important fortress town on the Weser River crossing in the Middle Ages. Lovingly restored half-timbered buildings, castle farms such as the Posthof (library) or the Fresenhof (museum), and farmer's houses and patrician houses bear witness to Nienburg's history. A pedestrian bridge opened in 2000, connecting Nienburg's city center with the western bank of the Weser River. It was built on the site of the first Nienburg Weser Bridge. This historic pedestrian bridge connects the city center with the district on the western bank. In the 18th century, the first stone Weser bridge was built on this site as a gift from King George of England. Until the end of the 19th century, this Weser crossing was the only one in the area. When a larger bridge was built a few hundred meters downstream, the first pedestrian bridge was built here, but it was destroyed in World War II.
