I read the information boards, and I understood their meaning and purpose.

Coming from the direction of Sulingen, it's rather unusual to cross such a large river/canal. So I stopped and lingered briefly on the footpath and took a nice photo with the dusk in the background.

The barn district in the Schlüsselburg district of Petershagen still comprises 26 barns that are built together in a very small space. During the Thirty Years' War there were repeated lootings and fires that hit the population hard. The close proximity of the buildings quickly led to the loss of all winter supplies in the event of a fire. At the beginning of the 17th century, people began to build storage barns outside the town in a flood-protected area. The barns, built close together, still form the unique panorama of the barn district today.

The lock canal flows back into the Weser between Schlüsselburg and Stolzenau.

The lock canal is a structure for shipping on the Weser

The Schlüsselburg lock canal is a canal around 3.5 kilometers long that runs parallel and west of the Weser. It stretches from Müsleringen to Schlüsselburg and shortens the “Weser waterway”. The lock chamber in Schlüsselburg is an impressive 223 meters long and 12.50 meters high. The difference in height of the water dammed up in front of the weir is overcome by lowering and raising the water level in the lock. The maximum lifting height is around 4.5 meters.

It is already a major resting place for many bird species that settle here.

This bridge over the floodplain is one of the 125 oldest stone bridges of this type in Germany. It is a three-arched stone bridge that was built in 1726 on behalf of the then Elector of Hanover, George I. It spans one of the two arms of the “Aue” river that flows around Jacobi Island.
