I actually biked the trails here and can agree with everything the original poser wrote. I noticed they didn’t record a ride here. 🤷🏿♂️. The parking lot is quite large and offers a fire pit, picnic table under a tree, primitive toilet and a repair stand that sadly has all the tools removed. Who does that? Nice to see anyhow. No garbage can so take your trash. It is possible for the trails to be closed during hunting season so do some research before you make the drive. 🦌

There are quite a few trail intersections in this tight-knit trail system, so it's best to have the route handy and read trail signs while you're riding. There are lots of bridges, berms, and flowy trails in the system. The trails were constructed in a way to be bike-specific, but they are open to foot-traffic as well, so be aware of other trail users.

Petal River Mountain Bike Park is a new bike park that is still being built. There are a handful of trails in the park open to riders, and you can instantly understand why this is a gem for locals in Hattiesburg. There are trails for varying difficulty levels, but trails are well-marked and easy to follow.

The Bethel Motorcycle and Bike Trails include a good handful of maintained singletrack and double-track trails in De Soto National Forest. The most popular trails for mountain biking are Badlands Trail and South Bethel Trail. These are pretty flat trails with lots of twists and turns through pretty thick pine forests.

Bonita Lakes is actually a collection of three maintained reservoirs with a couple dams separating them from each other. There is a dirt path around the waters that you can bike, walk, run, or horseback ride. There are a couple loop options, so you can choose whether you want to go shorter or longer. These shaded trails are just outside of downtown and a great choice for getting into nature when you don't have time to drive a long way. There are some singletrack trails on the west side of the lakes that you can get to from the main gravel trail, but most users stick to the lakes loop.

The Lakeside Trail follows along the banks of Choctaw Lake, which is a large reservoir in Tombigbee National Forest. You can boat, fish, and swim in the waters, and the Forest offers camping, picnic, and other day use options for a fee. The trail circling the lake is one of the most popular trails in the National Forest, but there are over 30 miles of dirt roads and biking trails to explore nearby. The most popular loop for mountain biking is probably the Noxubee Hills Outer Loop. This loop starts and finishes at the lake on the Lakeside Trail and travels on forest trails to the south before circling back on different trails to the north.

Tombigbee State Park is a small forest park outside of Tupelo, Mississippi. There is a large multiuse singletrack trail system, but there are only a couple trails that make up this almost ten mile network. The trails do not offer a lot of open views, but there is a lot of wildlife and plant life on the sides of the trail. The northern Family Loop Trail is a beginner loop, while the southern loop is labeled as a Blue Trail (though it is ridable for beginners).

There are a couple different entrances to the Nester Trail, and a lot of people choose to start via the northern entrance. The trail is easy to follow and doesn't include a lot of climbing. The trail is pretty smooth and generally suitable for beginner riders.
