The Ruppiner Canal is a navigable connection between the Rhin at Ruppiner See and the Havel near Oranienburg. On September 5, 1787, King Friedrich Wilhelm II approved the project to build a navigable canal that would extend beyond Hohenbruch to Kremmener and finally Ruppiner See. By June 1790, 600 workers completed the stretch from the Havel to Linum, and a year later the entire canal. This makes it one of the oldest canals in Brandenburg.

The famous battle on Kremmener Damm (October 24th, 1412), which is still remembered today by the cross on the road between Kremmen and Sommerfeld, was not the first strategic conflict to overcome the swampy lynx at that time - there had been 78 battles before that a battle.
