A very beautiful old Gothic building in the heart of Greifswald.

The Störtebeker Brewery Inn is located in Greifswald's market square and is open daily from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM. The kitchen is open continuously from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM. It offers the full range of Störtebeker brewery specialties, eight of which are available fresh from the tap. The building is in the Gothic style and features a distinctive brick facade.

Excerpt from the city of Greifswald's official description of the Fangenturm: (see also https://www.greifswald.de/de/historisches-erbe/denkmal/backsteingotik/fangenturm ) "This building was part of the medieval fortifications that once surrounded Greifswald. The Fangenturm was first mentioned in the city register in 1329 as "Vangentorm." After the structures in the area of the Schützenwall were leveled in the 18th century and the Hansering was built in the 1970s, the 13.50-meter-high tower remained as a remnant. When the building later no longer met its requirements, even as a powder tower, the city leased it to the university in 1775, which, due to its height and location on the outskirts of the city, used the tower as an observatory for a time."

Sometimes, especially in (un)suitable weather, I feel like I'm walking through a painting by the famous artist whose birthplace – Greifswald (on September 5, 1774) – pays tribute to the artistic work of Caspar David Friedrich: "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" :-)
