Het Galgeven with surroundings is a nature reserve south of Berkel-Enschot that is owned by the Stichting Brabants Landschap and belongs to the management unit Oude Hondsberg, Ter Braakloop and Galgeven. Het Galgeven is a fen of 16 ha[1] that is surrounded by hills. On one of them there was once a gallows, and on another a wind-powered fulling mill from 1811. This mill was built by the Tilburg textile manufacturer Van den Bergh, a name that still appears in the later wool brands BeKa and AaBe. The mill was a complete factory settlement with a few workers' houses and an office. Because of this, the fen was also called Berghven. The mill and settlement have disappeared, but a few deciduous trees (lime and summer oak) remind us of the place where all this once stood. The activities did cause pollution of the water. The later development, in which the heath was planted with conifers, also disrupted the environment. Around 1970, water lobelia, bankweed and bulrush were still growing in and around the Galgeven. Nowadays, small sundew, water trefoil and marsh buckthorn are still found in the vicinity of this fen. In 2005, calcareous water was released from the subsoil into the Galgeven in order to increase its acidity, because the water had become highly acidic. In this way, it is hoped that the rare flora will be restored. The Keelven is also located in the Galgeven area, and to the south is the Bakse Ven. This is the southwestern extension of the Oisterwijk fen area. Located on the territory of Heukelom. Currently belonging to the municipality of Oisterwijk, in the past belonging to the municipality of Berkel-Enschot. The area connects to the Kerkeindse Heide in the south, to the Ter Braakloop area in the northeast, and to the valley of the Voorste Stroom in the north.

You are now at the Klein Aderven. Just like the Witven, Van Esschenven and Groot Aderven, this fen was created by wind erosion. This can be traced back to the location of the fens in a southwest to northeast direction. This is the wind direction that occurs most in our country.
