When the heather blooms like it does now, and as nature increasingly reclaims the area, it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to see any remnants. There's a trench path, but I wouldn't be surprised if the trenches themselves gradually fade away with all the natural expansion nearby and on the hill. Until 1989, the steep Kalvariebos (83 m) was part of the nearby castle park 't Serclaes. The beech forest is now owned by the municipality of Lubbeek. A calvary group - founded around 1860 out of devotion by the devout 't Serclaes family - adorns the hilltop. In 1992 the municipality installed three new statues. The bridge connects the forests of Hees with Lobos castle and Loboshoeve.

Near Meldert and Zelem, on the border of Kempen and Hageland, the stream squeezes between several "Diestiaan ridges". The valley here is relatively narrow and the rapid transition from very wet swampy areas to very dry ridges make this area very valuable landscape and ecologically. In the "Schurfert" area in Meldert/Linkhout, the creation of ponds and marshes in the valley area has once again created an ideal biotope for meadow birds. Curlew, stonechat and snipe are increasingly frequenting this area. The "Marais de Zeelhem", currently known as "de Leunen", was also the favorite excursion site for botanists 100 years ago and even today it still houses characteristic flora, such as snake root, water hemlock, gale and many sedge species. On older maps the stream here was also known as "De Zwarte Laak" (De Swerte Laeck).

Interesting memorial site with decorated concrete helmets. Also a great place to take a break with picnic tables. The monument is not visible from the road, but one large concrete helmet has been placed in the raised area next to the road so that you can see where you need to be.
