Valle del Freddo is a nature reserve located in the Alto Sebino area, in the province of Bergamo, in the outer belt of the Orobie Alps. The reserve extends over approximately 70 hectares and is home to a variety of habitats, including precious alpine species, open grasslands and rocky substrates. The discovery of the scientific value of the valley dates back to 1939, when the botanist Guido Isnenghi noticed the unusual presence of botanical species typical of high-altitude environments at just 350 meters above sea level. Valle del Freddo has been the object of study and protection over the years. In 1983 it was established as an Oriented Nature Reserve to preserve its microclimatic phenomenon and regulate the use of the territory. Since 1995, the valley has been part of the Natura 2000 network and has been designated a Site of Community Importance (SCI).
