Bautzen is now a university town, as the Saxony University of Cooperative Education, with its seven campuses in Bautzen, Breitenbrunn, Dresden, Glauchau, Leipzig, Plauen, and Riesa, merged in 2025 to become the Saxony University of Cooperative Education. On the open house day, there will be an opportunity to climb the tower. Bautzen (Budyšin) Train Station Information: Opened: June 23, 1846. The station building was enlarged in 1921, acquiring roughly its present form. In 1945, the building burned down during the Battle of Bautzen. After World War II, the station building was rebuilt in a simplified style. Inside the station hall: information desk, restaurant, restrooms, a model of Bautzen's old town before the city fire of 1709, etc.
