The Scaliger Castle of Malcesine was probably built before the birth of Christ, while other sources report a construction date of around 500 AD. The castle was destroyed by the Franks in 590 and subsequently rebuilt. Over the centuries, the rulers of this magnificent castle changed hands several times. In 1902, the castle was declared a national monument.

The Castello di Avio, also known as Castello di Sabbionara (in older German texts as "Schloss Aue"), dates back in part to the 11th century and is one of the oldest fortifications in Trentino. It is located above the Vallagarina (German: Lagertal) in the municipality of Avio (district of Sabbionara d'Avio). A beautiful, well-preserved castle. From there, you have a perfect view of the lake. However, we found the entrance fee to be expensive.
