The Stollberg Dam (also called the Querenbach Dam or Querenbach Dam) was built between 1949 and 1954 in the Ore Mountains near Stollberg. The Querenbach Dam supplies Stollberg in Saxony and its surroundings with drinking water and provides flood protection. The water is extracted via a so-called extraction tower in the reservoir.

The Stollberg dam dams the water of the Querenbach and is therefore often referred to as the "Querenbach dam". The reservoir, built between 1949 and 1954, went into operation in 1954 and will therefore celebrate its 70th birthday in 2024. The catchment area of the dam, which contains extraordinarily clear water with visibility often reaching the bottom at a depth of 15 meters, is located in a sparsely populated forest area. The total catchment area covers 5.29 square kilometers and the average annual inflow is 2.18 million cubic meters. The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 1.129 million cubic meters and the capacity for raw water discharge is 0.97 million cubic meters per year. The water is used to supply drinking water to Stollberg and the neighboring communities. ... The Neunzehnhain Dam was built between 1911 and 1914 in the Bornwald near Pockau-Lengefeld in the Ore Mountains. It was put into operation shortly before the outbreak of the First World War. Due to the rapid industrialization of the Chemnitz area at the end of the 19th century and the enormous population growth of that time, water consumption rose rapidly. The Neunzehnhain Dam, which was only inaugurated in 1908, could no longer meet the water demand just three years later - and was therefore given a larger sister to accompany it.

History Plans for a dam in the Zwickauer Mulde valley in the area of the current dam wall had been in place since 1890, and these plans became more concrete in 1908. For this reason, plans for an extension of the Neidhardtsthal paper factory were abandoned in 1905. In September 1915, the Royal District Administration of Schwarzenberg announced in the Schönheider Wochenblatt that preparatory work was being carried out for the dams on the Zwickauer Mulde near Eibenstock and on the Kleine Bockau near Sosa. The work would affect the areas of Neidhardtsthal, Muldenhammer, Hundshübel, Eibenstock, Schönheide, Schönheiderhammer, Unterstützengrün, Sosa, Blauenthal and Wildenthal. In 1919, however, the Saxon government announced that the dam project was being abandoned. It was only the growing population numbers in Zwickau and Chemnitz in the 1960s that gave rise to the old planning considerations again.
