The dam wall of the Carlsfeld dam is a listed building. The curved gravity dam wall made of rubble stone is 195 meters long and up to 20 meters wide at the base. Its height above the foundation base is almost 32 meters. The dam axis has a radius of 160 meters. In order to improve the water quality, the Carlsfeld dam received a retention basin in 2010. It was built within a year. The basin is separated from the dam's storage space by a dam over 200 meters long and holds up to 44,000 cubic meters of water. It is operated as a green pool and is therefore not normally dammed.
