The dam is connected to the Neunzehnhain I and II dams and the Einsiedel dam via canals, pipelines, tunnels, and streams. A charming landscape conservation area of approximately 4,500 hectares extends around the Saidenbach Dam.

The Saidenbach drinking water reservoir was built between 1929 and 1933 northeast of Pockau-Lengefeld. It dams a total of six tributaries: the Forchheimer Dorfbach, Gründelbach, Haselbach, Hölzelbergbach, Lippersdorfer Bach, and Saidenbach. With over 146 hectares of water surface (22.4 million m³ of water), the reservoir is the largest reservoir in the Central Ore Mountains and also the largest drinking water reservoir in the "Central Ore Mountains" integrated water system. The Saidenbach Dam is a dam in Saxony. It supplies drinking water to Chemnitz and, in conjunction with the "Middle Ore Mountains" dam system, as well as the Neunzehnhain I and II and Einsiedel dams, to the entire supply area of the Southern Saxony Long-Distance Water Association. The dam wall of the Saidenbach Dam is a curved gravity dam made of quarry stone masonry based on the Intze principle. The dam was built between 1929 and 1933 near Lengefeld in the Ore Mountains (commissioned in 1933). It is a "large dam" according to ICOLD criteria. The dammed waters are the Haselbach, Saidenbach, Lippersdorfer Bach and Hölzelbergbach. A public path leads over the dam wall. Swimming and recreational sports are not possible in the reservoir, but you can hike and fish around the reservoir.

Once you've reached the top of the barrier, it's a steep climb, but you'll be rewarded with the view over the reservoir.

Absolute hiking tip, great nature

The Saidenbach dam is used to supply Chemnitz with drinking water and is located in a beautiful natural landscape. A nature trail starts at the hiking car park in Forchheim. Reifland can be reached via the dam wall and here there are very good views of the dam and the surrounding area.
