The 46 km long South-North Canal, which is part of the canal network on the left bank of the Ems, branches off from the Ems-Vechte Canal in Nordhorn and flows into the Haren-Rütenbrock Canal near Rütenbrock. It was navigable until the early 1960s and was used by ships to transport goods (peat) and to drain the moors. The canal, which is still important for drainage, is now well equipped for tourism. With its historic and listed locks and swing bridges, it is extremely popular with cyclists and hikers. Far away from traffic, you can take a relaxing ride along the canal and enjoy the beautiful nature, particularly from Nordhorn to Georgsdorf, on a wonderful cycle path. A section from Lock II to Lock IV is unpaved but easy to navigate. Several shelters invite you to linger.

Founded in 1394, this monastery has had a rich and eventful history. After the dissolution of the monastic community in 1815, the building served several purposes. Today, the Kloster Frenswegen Foundation, founded in 1974 by various religious communities and the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeinschaft, is responsible for the management of the monastery. A visit to the chapel, cloister and courtyard is highly recommended. A relaxing walk around the house, to the southern garden and the labyrinth is also worthwhile. End your visit with a well-deserved rest in the monastery café.
