The Werra Bridge in Creuzburg, together with the Liborius Chapel on the eastern bank, forms one of the town's landmarks. The bridge is the oldest surviving natural stone bridge in the eastern German states and the oldest surviving bridge along the entire course of the Werra River. This ensemble makes for a great photo opportunity in almost any weather.

The beautiful historic half-timbered town hall in Treffurt was built in the Renaissance style between 1546 and 1559. The five-story half-timbered tower was added in 1616.

The bridge is a great place to take a break. There are also seating areas. There's also parking on both sides. In addition to hiking trails, the Werra Valley Cycle Route and the Hercules Wartburg Cycle Route also run here.

The former command tower of the GDR border troops has been converted into a small museum by the Wendehausen Local History Society. It is open every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. from Easter Monday until German Unity Day on October 3. Outside of these hours, information panels in a wooden pavilion at the base of the tower provide information about the tower's mission during the Iron Curtain. Inside, the tower explains the former border installations and the living conditions of the population in the former restricted area. The tower also serves as a memorial to the victims of attempted escape from the GDR.

This tower is both a monument and a memorial. Overall, it's a beautiful site with a rest area.

There's always delicious food here, except on Mondays. It's right on the bike path, but often goes unnoticed. 😉🙋‍♂️
