Whenever possible, we go to the beach. It's simply fantastic and the water is excellent. Highly recommended. We also feel at home at Hippo's Beach Bar. Good food and good value for money. Parking is €1 for two hours and €3 for the whole day. Keep it up, and it's unbeatable.

The Werminghoff briquette factory began operations in 1918 as one of the most modern factories in Europe. Over 100 years later, the briquette factory is a testament to lignite processing in Upper Lusatia and a museum. The museum has been extensively redesigned and, for the first time, presents a permanent exhibition that traces the development of the old Lusatian mining region from its pre-industrial beginnings to a future-oriented holiday and energy region. On a journey through time, visitors playfully experience the region's industrial, social, and ecological transformation processes: from the Sorbian heath villages to the economic boom fueled by lignite in the 20th century, to the development of the Lusatian Lake District and current issues surrounding the energy transition. The Scheibe open-cast mine, or Šibojska jama in Upper Sorbian, was a lignite open-cast mine that operated from 1985 to 1996 east of Hoyerswerda in the Lusatian lignite mining area. In 1986/1987, the town of Scheibe, which gave it its name, and the developments of the town of Burg, located to the north, had to make way for it. Every Wednesday and Friday, regional products are offered for sale at Wittichenau's market square. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days, you can indulge in delicacies from Lusatia. Whether it's milk or cheese from the KRABAT dairy, fish from nearby ponds, or locally grown fruit and vegetables – at Wittichenau's weekly market, you'll find many delicious products that impress with their freshness.

The Bautzen–Hoyerswerda railway line was a branch line in Saxony. It branched off from the Görlitz–Dresden railway line in Bautzen and led through northern Upper Lusatia via Königswartha and Wittichenau to Hoyerswerda, where it joined the Węgliniec–Roßlau railway line. In 2002, the line was closed and later dismantled.
