The cycle path around the lake is currently being resurfaced with asphalt. Afterwards, it will be suitable for cyclists and especially inline skaters. 👍🏻

The station is scheduled to be barrier-free by 2027. Currently, you have to carry your bike up and down the stairs to the platforms.

Hoyerswerda is located roughly halfway between Kohlfurt/Wegliniec and Falkenberg. Therefore, auxiliary workshops, a coal loading platform, water cranes, and a locomotive shed with a turntable were initially built here. After nationalization around 1890, Hoyerswerda became an independent railway depot. From 1905 to 1908, the workshops were expanded into main workshops for locomotives and wagons, and the water supply was improved through the water tower on the station forecourt. By the early 1920s, urgent expansions were already underway: a new locomotive shed with a larger turntable was built, and there was a Reichsbahn repair shop, whose buildings were integrated into the railway depot after its closure in 1927. During the interwar period, the Hoyerswerda depot housed 50 steam locomotives. By the end of 1945, after the establishment of the Reichsbahn Directorate in Cottbus, 84 locomotives were in use. An important area of activity was the supply of hard coal from Katowice and the removal of briquettes from the surrounding briquette factories in Knappenrode, Zeißholz, and Laubusch. Over approximately 35 years, Hoyerswerda developed into a hub for several railway lines. Coal mining and refining, as well as the development of downstream and associated industries, played a significant role in this. Many transports to and from the growing industrial sectors were handled via Hoyerswerda station. Today, a large portion of the southern freight tracks, as well as the former railway depot, are out of service, and the buildings are often in use by third parties or are falling into disrepair.
