Update September 12, 2025: Cycle path below the Schiersteiner Bridge opened! As of today, the suspended cycle path is finally officially open and fully usable! 🎉 The concrete blocks that blocked access have been removed – now there is a safe and comfortable connection between Mainz and Wiesbaden again. ✨ Extra bonus: The Rettbergsau recreation area is now also easily accessible by bike. 📣 Janina Steinkrüger, Head of the Department of Transport: "We waited this year for the defects to be rectified. Even though we would have preferred an earlier opening, I am relieved that we can now announce the opening." 👉 Background: In November 2024, safety-related defects were discovered on the Mainz side. These were the responsibility of the Autobahn GmbH and have now been successfully remedied. 🌍 An important step towards increased cycling mobility, safety, and leisure quality in Mainz and Wiesbaden!

You should only cycle through the area if it's been dry for a while beforehand. The paths are unpaved, and when wet, it's like a mud bath.

Update August 15, 2025: Unfortunately, eight months after its planned opening, the footbridge remains closed on the Mainz side due to a defective sheet metal. Response to an email inquiry from Autobahn GmbH: "The towing plate to be replaced (a custom-made product weighing several hundred kilograms) has been ordered. However, there are delivery delays, which means that no statement on the installation date can be made at this time. Due to the aforementioned delivery delays and the vandalism damage that also needs to be repaired, the opening date of the cycle path and sidewalk cannot currently be determined with any certainty. Numerous deliberate damages at the construction site repeatedly lead to delays."
