The caponier presents itself as a defensively enclosed structure on an almost square ground plan, its massive masonry facing the Rhine only interrupted by small loopholes. Equipped with a crenellated stair tower and a heavy parapet, the structure, despite its comparatively small dimensions, makes a defiant impression and is reminiscent of medieval castles."
