⚓️🚲 The fishing port double lock in Bremerhaven is a monumental structure and a central crossing for vehicles and pedestrians between the fishing port and the outer Weser region. It is closely linked to the maritime economy and the protection of the inner harbor basins from the tides.

There is a motorhome port here, from where you can start cycling tours.

A very impressive, restored and old sailing training ship "Schulschiff Deutschland", which was built in 1927 in Bremerhaven (then Wesermünde).

In the past, it became apparent that the double lock built between 1921 and 1925 as an access to the fishing port had increasingly become a bottleneck for shipping. Therefore, in June 1996, the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen decided to build a new, significantly larger main chamber. After a construction period of four years, the large lock chamber, which had been extended from 100 to 181 meters, was opened in June 2001. The first ship to pass through the new facility was the 124-meter-long fishing factory ship "Jan Maria". The small chamber remained the same width, but was extended accordingly. The expansion of the fishing port double lock removed a bottleneck. The structure secures access to a maritime port, commercial and industrial area of around 600 hectares with several hundred companies and several thousand jobs.
